We have lost a special friend and major contributor to the club.
Marilyn will be dearly missed.

Marilyn Perkins Tabb passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at her home in Birmingham Alabama after a courageous three and a half year battle with cancer.

Born on April 11, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan she was the daughter of George Mansel Perkins and Louise Gum Perkins. Marilyn graduated from West Plains High School, Oklahoma Baptist University and Boston University.

During her freshman year at OBU she met the love of her life Winston Tabb. They married on September 4, 1965 in West Plains, Missouri. She and Winston shared a love of music and theater and greatly enjoyed time with friends and family and travelling the world.

After living in Boston, Massachusetts, Marilyn and Winston moved to Reston, Virginia in 1972. She taught elementary music for over thirty years at Herndon Elementary School where she developed lifelong friends and sparked a love of music in many of the students she taught. In retirement she and Winston moved to Baltimore in 2002 where she became an ardent volunteer, devoting her time to The Johns Hopkins University Woman’s Club, the Hamilton Street Club and as a librarian at Barclay Elementary School. One of her greatest passions was her involvement with the University Baptist Church where she served as an Elder, sang in the choir and played handbells.

Marilyn was predeceased by her father and her mother. She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Winston Tabb; her son, Ashley Summers Tabb (Lucia); her grandsons, Henry Perkins Tabb, William Plosser Tabb and Charles Hasty Tabb; her brother, John Robert Perkins (Joanna); sisters-in-law, Julia Katherine Taylor, Anna Jane (Janie) Trotter (Randy), Joyce Ellen Clement (Dave); brother-in-law Edmond Eugene Tabb; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to ExpectCare Hospice and their amazing team. Everyone involved in Marilyn’s hospice journey held a special place in her heart and the family cannot thank the ExpectCare team enough.

The funeral will be held Friday, November 8th, in the Nave at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Birmingham, Alabama at 10:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM in the Tilson Room.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial gifts to The Marilyn Perkins Tabb Scholarship Fund at the Johns Hopkins University Woman’s Club – P.O. Box 4760, Baltimore, MD 21211, or a charity of your choice.
